The United Nations estimates that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish. Because of headlines like this and as part of our plan to offset our carbon emissions to net zero by 2030, we are looking at areas of our business activities that can be improved, this includes finding an alternative packaging solution to bubble wrap.

The replacement must be ecofriendly, cost-effective, be light in weight, and offer the same level of protection for fragile shipments through both wrapping and void filling.

What plastic free environmentally friendly alternatives are we currently testing?

Following our objectives highlighted above we are currently looking at:

  • AirWave PaperWave® Bio Pillow Rolls. Made of paper these air-filled pillows offer great cushioning, it also offers a 100% biodegradable and 100% recyclable solution.
  • AirWave Pacplan Biofilm. Another air-filled pillow option, it’s made from potato off cuts and is household-biocompostable.

With alarming predictions as outlined in our opening line above, it’s up to us all to reduce the use of plastic fast.
