Nothing adds greater impact and perceived value to a finished canvas than a perfect stretch – and ultimately great framing. It’s vital therefore that when it comes to stretching a canvas on to its frame, that it is done flawlessly. Make no mistake however, it isn’t easy, and you may prefer to leave it to the experts.

Here at Flight Logistics-ShipArtTM we look after many aspects of art handling such as shipping, bespoke packing, storage etc. Stretching is a skill that we prefer to leave to a professional and we are very fortunate to have developed a long-standing relationship with Priyesh from Sudra Art.

We recently introduced Priyesh from Sudra Art to Undiscovered Canvas to assist with the perfect presentation of the newly arrived, rolled canvases of artist Nthabiseng Kekana in preparation for their group show at SoShiro.

Our video tutorial includes the following tips for artists and gallerists to optimise the impact and value of the artworks.

  • The fit and angles – canvas v frame
  • Accommodating wavy edges and edge detail on artworks
  • Anchoring the sides
  • Tensioning the canvas
  • Tidy cornering and folding
  • Final fix and neatening
  • Et voila – finished
